Novelty 2023: The need for heavy freight locomotives prompted the DB to rebuild a total of 43 class E 94 locomotives between 1954 and 1956. This included the E 94 178, which was listed as 194 178 after the change in the DB class scheme in 1968. During the main inspection on 8 January 1976, the locomotive was painted in the colours ocean blue and ivory that were valid for the DB from 1974. However, the division of the colours with a light contrasting area at the front was not convincing due to the susceptibility to protection in this area. As the only locomotive of its class with this paint scheme, it also bore the nickname "Blue Mauritius".PIKO has transferred this special locomotive to 1:87 scale, taking into account all the special features of the prototype. Thanks to the PluX22 interface, the PIKO model is prepared for the uncomplicated installation of a decoder.
With the model of the 194 178-0, PIKO has set a monument to the cult electric locomotive. The locomotive has not only been wrapped in the striking ocean blue-beige colour scheme, the model version has been specially tuned for this special machine and reproduces the prototype in every detail. The engine room windows are rubber-framed on the side opposite the gangway and give a clear view of the lovingly designed engine room furnishings. A "motorbike lamp" is mounted on the top of the rivet-free front end as a third top light. In the area of the bogies 12 sandboxes with sand pipes are mounted free-standing true to the original. In addition, the compensating coupling between the bogies as well as the reproduction of the wheel flange lubrication pump are recognisable. On the roof there are finely etched metal roof grates.
